Press Release/ Nikolai Klein: MEXICO PAINTINGS July 2013
NIKOLAI KLEIN: MEXICO PAINTINGS 2008-2013
Opening reception at Ashland Painters Union on Saturday, July 6th from 5-7:30pm
Ashland, OR (June 19th, 2013) – Opening on July 6th, 2013, Mexico Paintings will feature paintings by APU Member Nikolai Klein. A public reception will be held from 5PM to 7:30PM on Saturday, July 6th. The exhibition will be on view for the month of July, Saturdays and Sundays from 1-5. If you wish to see the exhibit by appointment please call (541) 535-1091.
This exhibit is the culmination of five years of work focusing on the land/city/scape of Mexico. These paintings were all done from sketches and snapshots taken during various trips south of the border. The real subject however, is the paint itself. In these mainly large-scale works I have tried to break free of conventional landscape painting and present a more living and spontaneous view of the surroundings. After over 35 years of painting I feel I have finally achieved a tactility and directness that clearly conveys the experience of a given place.
For more information about Nikolai Klein please visit his website at http://www.kleinarts.com/art/ or call (514) 535-1091 to interview the artist.
